How do I keep a large basement (up to 4,500 sq ft) dry without thinking about it?

DryPrime 50 removes up to 115 pints of moisture per day, built around 5 rows of copper tubing — not aluminum — so performance holds up over time, not just on day one.

It runs at 45 dB, quiet enough to stay on while you're in the room. Connect the included drain hose to a floor drain and you never empty a tank. Set your target humidity once, and the unit handles the rest — shutting off when the air is dry, restarting when moisture builds back up, and resuming automatically if the power ever cuts out.

DryPrime 50B dehumidifier Smart Humidity Control curve with auto shut-off and auto restart

Set it once. It runs itself.

You shouldn't have to babysit a dehumidifier. Set your target humidity, and DryPrime 50 shuts off when the air is dry enough — then restarts automatically when moisture builds back up. If the power goes out, it picks up exactly where it left off.

How do I know if the capacity numbers are accurate?

Check the weight! Why? A dehumidifier's performance largely depends on the amount of copper inside. More copper means better dehumidifying power and energy efficiency. So, how can a lightweight unit claim such high capacity? The trick is that dehumidifying capacity varies with temperature and humidity—the higher these are, the more effective the unit appears. For example, the Gasbye DryPrime-50 model, weighing 43 pounds, pulls up to 115 pints/day at 86°F, 80% RH, 73 pints/day at 80°F, 60% RH, and 50 pints/day at 65°F, 60% RH. Some dehumidifiers claim 52 pints/day at 86°F, 80% RH but weigh just 34.6 pounds. Others even claim 100 pints/day at an extreme 95°F, 90% RH yet weigh only 30.9 pounds. You'll find that these lightweight models highlight their performance in high-temperature, high-humidity conditions to show inflated numbers. If you compare the dehumidifying capacity under the same temperature and humidity conditions, I’m confident you’ll see that Gasbye dehumidifiers offer great value for the price. We don’t mislead customers by labeling a mini-sized unit as a 100 pint/day dehumidifier (measured at 95°F, 90% RH) and then charging you over $200 for it.

Will running a dehumidifier raise my AC bill?

Dehumidifiers work similarly to air conditioners, which also emit warm air during operation. Although this warm air slightly increases the AC's cooling energy use, it reduces the AC's dehumidification burden. By letting your air conditioner (2000-3000 watts) focus on cooling rather than dehumidifying, running a dehumidifier (500 watts) will typically lower your overall energy bill. Stronger dehumidifiers emit more warm air, while weaker ones emit less. We’ve observed that some consumers are pleased when their new dehumidifier emits less warm air than their old one. However, this often simply means that the new unit has a lower dehumidifying capacity. As mentioned above, the amount of warm air emitted by the dehumidifier does not increase your electricity bill. In fact, it can actually reduce it (counterintuitive but true—you can search for more information if interested.)

What's the difference between a compressor and a semiconductor dehumidifier?

In terms of cooling technology, compressor dehumidifiers are 5-6 times more efficient than semiconductor-based ones. Although a semiconductor-based dehumidifier consumes only 60-100 watts and seems more energy-efficient, you would need a bunch of them to effectively dehumidify a space larger than 300 sq ft. In contrast, a single 300-500 watt compressor dehumidifier can quickly reduce the humidity in a large room.

Where in my home does this work best?

The Gasbye DryPrime-50 is a compressor-based dehumidifier with an internal compressor that causes vibrations and noise. It operates at around 45dB and is relatively quiet, making it ideal for medium to large spaces like basements, garages, and spacious living rooms. In these areas, it won’t disturb you while working or watching TV. However, it’s not recommended for use in small spaces like bedrooms.

What's the difference between ENERGY STAR and ENERGY STAR Most Efficient?

The US EPA has set two certification standards for dehumidifier energy efficiency. The ENERGY STAR certification indicates good energy efficiency, while the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient certification recognizes the top-performing products in energy efficiency. In 2024, the US EPA raised the most efficiency standards. Gasbye is the fastest brand to meet this new standard. This is because big brands often have large inventories of older models that need to be sold before introducing new standards, which can take 3-4 years.

Model. Which is best for you?

I’m pretty dang happy with it

I’m pretty dang happy with it. Turned it on and in one 10 minutes run it cleared out all of the humidity. Haven’t had to turn it back on since. Runs a lot quieter than I expected also. The true test will be this summer but I’m pretty sure I made a great purchase. Don’t know why I waited so long to buy one. This is going to a Iife changer.

Gasbye 3200 sq. Ft. Energy Star dehumidifier

Have had this working for 2 weeks. We live in our Touring Travel Trailer full time & use it to help keep our humidity levels comfortable. The unit arrived well packaged, the manual is in English and is very easy to understand . The unit has 4 settings and performs very well in each setting so far. We got the mgr. extensions for an added 1 year normal warranty & the 5 year extended warranty for refrigerant leakage & compressor icing @ no additional cost. Amy, is our customer representative & is very courteous and helpful. She reviewed & returned our confirmations on the mfgr. warranty offers within 3 hours of our on line application. The unit has been performing very well. The sensor is within 1-2 points of 2 separate humidity monitors. We empty the bucket ( .9 gal) about 1 x a day & it easily maintains our levels between 40-50%. We like the fact these are tested at 3 different humidity/temperature levels & their performance meets or exceeds the lastest testing and certification requirements. We also appreciate they utilize copper lines and the claimed ratings & removal quantities are based on realistic temperature/ humidity conditions while meeting or exceeding the latest industry standard requirements. We found this very helpful in obtaining accurate comparisons of the competitions stated performance ratings. Very pleased so far. Will update after we have more data and conditions but are extremely satisfied at this point in time. Highly recommend buyers strongly consider giving these folks and their units a chance. In our research we were very impressed & still are with the performance. We have not experienced any of the few 1& 2 negative review issues mentioned. It is compact, quiet, attractive, easy to use, dump, and clean. Feel it is a very good unit that quickly pulls moisture & maintains the humidity levels.UPDATE: 08/08/2025-We continue to love this unit. The manufacturer claims & comments are very accurate and are not just hype,,, the unit does all they claim it will do. Performance & operates flawlessly for us through our fall and early winter conditions. Easily maintains humidity @ 35-45%. All our initial impressions have been confirmed & manufacturer is knowledgeable &responds quickly to questions.

Excellent for large rooms

Excellent for large rooms. We have a large open room in our basement, approximately 20x30. Living room area, bar area and a 10x10 grow tent with a large hydroponic vegetable garden. We have struggled to get the humidity down to 45% usually in the low 50’s and we have tried several units. This unit keeps the humidity between 37-39% continuous. Very happy with this purchase, highly recommend.

Excellent Customer Service

We have 2 basements. One below the house and one below a 20 x 30 Shop. The shop basement is used as a Fitness Center. Out utility bill seemed inordinately high with the dehumidifier we were using. Our research indicated the Gasbye provided 25% to 30% efficiency improvement. We purchased 2 new machines. The utility bill was decreased. However, about 16 months after purchase, one of the machines exhibited an E3 error. An email was sent to the Sevice Team at Gasbye. Amy responded within 24 hours. We provided a picture of the error and the purchase receipt. Within the next 48 hours a replacement unit arrived at the house. This unit has been working flawlessly. Our thanks to Amy and the Gasbye team. Amy continued to follow-up to ensure our expectations were exceeded.

Smart looking Dehumidifier

The dehumidifier has been working well this spring with no problems. The noise level is acceptable, considering it is in an open area in our family room.

Very nice dehumidifier

Very nice dehumidifier. Replaces an old 40 year Plus Sears Kenmore.
Not loud compared to the old one when dehumidifying. The fan does run all the time except in timer mode, not annoying though.
Pleased with the purchase.

Thanks for the kind words—glad to hear it’s running quieter than your old unit. Really appreciate you sharing your experience.

Solid, well made dehumidifier.

Dehumidifier arrived quicker than expected with good communication and no damage. Product was packaged extremely well. After the 24 hours rest period, unit was plugged in and started. All modes have worked perfectly and humidistat seems quite accurate. Unit appears to be very solid and well made. Basement felt much drier after only 1 night of operation.

Thank you so much for your feedback! We’re glad to hear your unit arrived safely and is performing well. It’s great to know you’ve already noticed the difference after just one night — that’s exactly the result we aim for. Appreciate your trust in Gasbye.

Dehumidifier, Good Pus

I can't really do a true evaluation because I've only had the dehumidifier for less than a month, but I can honestly say my basement smells so much better. That damp moldly smell is gone. It was so easy to set up, and included a small hose for water drainage and a garden hose adapter for a lengthy hose. I love that it is very quiet and that it gives several options for how you would like your dehumidifier to run (continously, cycle on and off or using the timer). The only drawback was the warranty website, which did not work for me.

Very pleased - read this to save time deciding which dehumidifier to buy

I just received the Gasbye DryPrime-50-B Dehumidifier - I am really impressed! And . . NO, the manufacturer did not give me a financial or any other kind of incentive to write this review. After spending over an hour comparing the different models available on Amazon, I noticed that this had the most drying capacity of ALL the large units I looked at (115 pints/day at 86°F). Additionally, they add an anti-corrosion coating to the inside of their copper tubing to extend its working life. This unit is more quiet than the one it is replacing that died. Also, there are little things that they didn't need to add that tells me thoughtful designing went into this: a cord reel with a socket for the plug so it isn't dangling, retractable handle, instructional sticker on the user interface, great packing materials, an adaptor so the drain tube can be secured into a garden hose for additional length beyond the 5 foot tubing included. The other thing that I am aware of is quality - everyone advertises this BUT there is no way to tell if it is more than just a good sales pitch. The unit feels solid and has the some of the very best ratings on amazon (5 stars at 81% and 4 stars at 10%). They double Amazon's 30 day return policy, financially guarantee prompt service when you contact them and extend the 1 year warranty a full extra year! The only way a company can do those things is if it is absolutely sure it won't have to repair anything - in other words, quality is the only reason that can be offered. Hopefully this review cuts down on other people's time in choosing a quality dehumidifier.

They stand behind their products even when I had an issue!

Stopped working after 3 months however this is how the story changes…within days of reporting this issue I was contacted directly by Gasbye costumer service expressing deep regret for the issue. They provided me with a resolution that was fare and prompt! In this day of age how many companies stand behind their product without jumping through a bunch of red tape… not many! I will continue to by Gasbye products because they truly want you to be satisfied. All companies should pay attention to this type of customer service because without happy customers the future is bleak for them.

Really, really good customer service

I don't normally order a dehumidifier online for they can get rather abused by the shipping carriers and so what would normally be a good dehumidifier winds up breaking down well before its time. Well. . .it seems in my neck of the woods everyone was needing a dehumidifier at the time so nothing much was available locally. Hesitantly, I did some looking on Amazon to see if I could find one that was within my criteria of what I needed. After spending a good amount of time, I settled on this make and model.Once received, I pulled it out of the box and followed the recommendation of letting it sit upright for at least 24 hours. . .I let it sit for 28. The first thing that came to my mind when I had the unit fully out of the box was, "This really is a nice looking dehumidifier. . .and it doesn't seem cheap either." I've had many dehumidifiers in the past that had plastic so cheap that I bet if I had sneezed on it something would have cracked — not this one. After waiting the designated time frame, I started it up. Does it make noise? Yes, it does, like all dehumidifiers do; no such things as a "quiet" one. It is, however, not has noisy as others similar in size and capability. It rolls effortlessly, the controls are very simple to use and it comes with a manual, which is pretty straight forward. As for the water reservoir, it takes a little effort to pull out from the unit, especially when full, but it is pretty much on par with all the other dehumidifiers I've had in the past. For two days, it ran perfectly, filling up the reservoir in several hours. I was really impressed.Unfortunately, on the third day, frost started to build up heavily and would not defrost from the grills in the back, thus diminishing its dehumidifying capabilities. This wasn't good. I did some diagnostics on my own, but nothing seemed to make a difference, so I contacted the company and explained the issue and uploaded a photo of the frost buildup. The rep, Amy, got back to me later that day and said during shipping the unit might have lost some coolant and thus why it is frosting up so quickly. She wanted my SN off the back of the unit and my name and address for verification. After submitting the requested info, she got back to me and told me she is contacting the warehouse so they could send me a new one and I should receive it in five days; I got it in four. Wow. . .that is good service. No hassle, no nonsense. . .just a smooth experience. As I stated earlier in my review, many times dehumidifiers fail before their time not because of being a cheap product, but because of the rough housing by these shipping carriers (I remember when FedEx delivered my $2500 computer: the driver was flip-flopping it around the truck like it was a rubber tire. . .grrrrr. . .). This is no fault of the companies that make good products. Regardless of how well-made something is or how well it is packaged, prolonged rough handling will negatively affect pretty much any kind of electrical unit or equipment. It's basic physics. With that said, although I do not know how long this new dehumidifier will work, not knowing how durable the internal components are or how roughly jostled it was during shipping this second time around, for the company to say that they "stand by their products" and them giving me the excellent service that they did tells me they believe they have built a solid and dependable dehumidifier. From my experience, I have to concur.Thank you, Gasbye, for your respectful service.

Overall, I like this….

Overall I like this unit. It’s quiet, does a good job and has some nice features. One terrible design flaw however, is that if you want to use the garden hose attachment point, you need to have the fingers of a Lilliputian to screw it on! There is so little room, I could only turn it a fraction of a turn at a time, as you can’t get your fingers in there to just screw it on. So for that poor design feature I deducted one star as that was poorly thought out. Otherwise, it seems to be a good and effective unit.

Gasbye 4500

I bought the Gasbye 4500 for my daughter to use in her basement level studio apartment this year. She had a mold issue until the management co. loaned her a dehumidifier. The loaner was a large unit. Based on that, and the seemingly excessive amount of humidity (enough to cause mold on the ceiling) I didn’t want to purchase a small unit, even though the apartment is less than 1,000 sq. ft. She let it sit upright inside for a day before turning on, as is recommended in the instructions. It’s been running for two days now and collects around a full tank every day. RH reading was 78, and now is at 47. She says it is quieter than the loaner, and the tank has a handle that makes it easier to empty. Looking good so far. I received an email from Gasbye, through Amazon, with some reiteration of important instructions, and telling me that we had a 2 year warranty.Pay no attention to reviews about excessive noise or heat output. These reviews are from people who don’t understand that electro-mechanical devices produce some of each. My daughter is using this in a studio apartment and has it on continuous mode. She has no issues with it. 47db of noise beats mold any day.

Got less than 3 months before issues began.

We have had our GasBye DryPrime-50-B dehumidifier in operation for about 2 1/2 months. It has performed flawlessly for most of that time however a couple weeks ago it started buzzing, low at first but getting much louder. The coils are frosting up requiring the defroster cycle to kick on. The room temp has been and currently is a constant 66 - 68 degrees. I have written an email to the support line with no response and tried to obtain a service manual with no luck. I am starting to lose confidence in this unit.To be continued.....Review continued:Amy at GasBye (my Customer Service Rep) requested some info from me regarding my unit that wasn't performing well like Serial #, Model # and a short video of the noise it was making and the frosting up. Within a few short days Amy wrote to let me know a brand new unit is on the way.Let the unit sit upright for a couple days then plugged it in this afternoon. It is working smoothly and quietly.I can't thank Amy for the professional way she handled my case.I couldn't be more pleased!Dan

A great machine.

I purchased this product because of a need in our new home basement. I look through the choices, man there's a lot, but I kept going back to this one. The two year warranty really tipped the scale for this one. I ordered this one (black) because white was much more. Got it quick and after a 24 hour acclamation I set it up and let it do its thing. In 24 hrs I had a completely new environment in my basement. It was dry and a much more pleasant smell. The machine is quiet and blows a good amount of air for recirculating throughout the area. It's capable of continuous draining, so no more emptying the bucket. It seems quite well built, is good looking and has a good amount of control selection. It doesn't run nearly as often as some I've had in the past but I haven't had it long enough to check my electric use. I'm betting it's very economical. I'm sure you'll be happy with this dehumidifyer.

Quiet, good performer

I am impressed with this Gasbye dehumidifier. It is thoughtfully built and a quiet performer (turbo setting is a little louder), and I like the different modes you can set it on. It was easy to get the water bucket out and back in. I like that the tank is somewhat larger than a lot of dehumidifiers, so you don't have to empty it as often. It also comes with a hose, if you don't want to empty the bucket. It's doing a great job of getting the humidity out of the house.

Extremely effective and Energy efficient

This dehumidifier is extremely effective and efficient. I purposely bought an Energy Star rated dehumidifier because my old one used a lot of electricity and heated up the room which is not what you want in the summer time. This Gasbye 2024 energy star model is quiet, puts very little heat in the room and uses much much less electricity. It quickly reduced the humidity in my basement from 90% to 75% in a few days, then it took about another week to get down to 60%, (below 63% prevents mold from growing). I’ve been running it for more than a month now and am able to maintain 55% without a problem, no matter what the humidity is outside. I have it on auto hose drain, so I can run it continuously without emptying a bucket. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Satisfied Repeat Customer

This is my second Gasbye unit. The first one only lasted 14 months. So why did I purchase another? Customer service and a product I believe in. The first unit did its job of controlling the humidity in our basement. I was quite pleased with it, though I could have used a higher capacity unit. Then it started throwing an error code. Consulting the manual, it said to contact Gasbye customer support, which I did. Within hours I heard back from them. I needed to send some confirmation information to them and because they did not have that model in stock, offered a full refund, which I accepted.I immediately went back on Amazon and ordered a replacement unit by Gasbye. This unit has a higher capacity. It also has the same intuitive interface as the first unit. A feature I really like is the "Comfort" setting, where it will adjust the target humidity based upon the room temperature. Our basement temperature fluctuates a bit due to a leaky central air system in an old house as well as when we don't use the central air. The basement has never been as comfortable as it is now that this unit is in operation.

very glad I bought this; longer drain hose option preferred to hose extender option

I am really happy i ended up purchasing this. I literally ordered then canceled other dehumidifiers several time before going back into a search and finding this. I like that the unit feels solid, like its not going to break in a month, and the parts dont feel cheap and flimsy. I also really like the clear instructions , and the stickers placed on the unit to remind you to clean filter etc. This is really helpful for a forgetful person like me. It's powerful --I just got this and I have to constantly empty the bucket several times a day. The included drain hose was not long enough, and while the adapter works great, I decided that I would prefer not to use a garden hose to extend the included hose, because it's really helpful to have one clear hose as I have had mold and clogs in other unit hoses in the past. Customer service is offering to send me a longer clear hose which is hugely helpful (and ensures that I dont order the wrong hose)! I am awaiting that before I am able to continuously operate the machine. Hope I can get it soon because we live in a very humid place and will be away for part of the summer. Will give me such peace of mind to have this up and running continuously!
